Optimal Material Selection for Manufacturing Prosthetic Foot

The foot is an essential part of the components prosthesis. Therefore, selected materials’ mechanical properties, cost, and weight must be considered when manufacturing prosthetic foot. This study studied properties materials used for feet. material chosen Carbon Fiber, Glass fiber, hybrid composite material. aims to simulate find optimal selection feet by assuming boundary conditions, reaction forces, design consideration, application. simulation was done finite element analysis ANSYS-14.5 program. result force plate test shows ground equal 750N at heel strike,700N mid-stance, 650N toe-off stage. maximum Von-Misses stress 119MPa stage, has safety factor. Furthermore, results showed that are best, as yield 560MPa, ultimate 678MPa, modulus elasticity 6.2GPa. Hybrid excellent improvement in such lightweight, stiffness, high cost-efficiency. Hence considering body amputee, gait cycle, analyzing best suitable should manufacture prostheses.
